Content Delivery Network

Content Delivery Network

Our Content Delivery Network (CDN) product is here.

What is a CDN? And why should I care?

A CDN is a global network that makes the delivery of your content faster. It works by caching your site’s static files–such as images, javascript, CSS and videos–and delivering them to your site’s visitors via the CDN Point of Presence (POP) closest to them. Since those heavier elements are now being delivered locally to the visitor, it greatly improves the end user experience and makes your site load faster.

Using a CDN is one of Yahoo’s recommended steps to speed up your website.

 How much does it cost?

Our CDN product is sold on “PAYG” basis in 1TB nodes. We offer a special price on the first TB of CDN- $34.95. Anything over that is available at $100/TB. If you need APAC region, the price is $250/TB.

Is there a time limit on the PAYG bandwidth?

As long as you require: there are no time limitations regarding utilization of your PAYG traffic. You can use it for as long as it lasts, it does not expire.

What CDN services do you offer?

You can set up a Caching, On-Demand or Live Streaming property within your account.

The Caching service gives you a flexible and cost-effective solution to deliver your digital content to web users across the globe. By leveraging an industry-leading, international IP network and thousands of edge servers optimized to deliver large files, you can save the costly investment in infrastructure that is required to deliver a richer, more reliable web user experience at peak demand.

On-Demand Streaming services are used for streaming video of pre-recorded content.

Live Event Streaming allows you to broadcast your live event in real time on the Internet.

Can I use it with multiple sites?

Yes, you can pull the CDN data from multiple locations, including different websites and servers. Each CDN account comes with one free property setup. If you need more- that is not a problem. The price of additional property is only $5.

What file formats are supported?

CDN supports many of the common streaming file types. The charts below shows the formats CDN streaming service can deliver.

Windows Media

Files Type (Format) File Name Extension

Media Playlist .asx, .wax, .m3u, .wpl, .wvx, .and wmx

CDN Flash delivery service supports the following file formats:

Do you offer storage? If so, how much is it?

Edge storage is the storage present on every POP the CDN has. Your data is replicated to all POP’s and it’s instantly accessible for users nearby. The edge storage doesn’t depend on traffic package. Edge storage is not a “permanent storage” solution. So the CDN “Edge” storage is free and unlimited.

Origin storage costs $0.30 per GB. The minimum amount that can be purchased is 100GB.

Origin Storage is designed to store images, audio and video files, software and other content that will be delivered to end-users via the Internet taking advantage of the CDN. For more information, please, contact us at sales@vps.net.

 What is “Origin Pull?”

Our CDN product works by Origin Pull. Origin Pull is the process by which the CDN can obtains the files to be served from your storage. The first time a visitor accesses your site, the CDN loads the files from your site or storage location and delivers it to the visitor. It then caches the files on the CDN for the subsequent visitors and won’t need to grab it from your storage location anymore. The CDN will keep the files up to 7 days from the day it was last accessed.

How much does it cost to setup a CNAME to the CDN?

Unlike other providers we do not charge for CNAMEs. When your property is set up, you have to create a CNAME record pointing to ‘cdn.vps.net.c.footprint.net.’

Do I get a CDN Control Panel?

You get two control panels. Basic usage details and statistics are available via the VPS.NET control panel for each property. If you would like more detailed statistics, you will be able to access Media Portal account.

But I have more questions … ?

We will be glad to answer them, just drop us an email to sales at sales@vps.net
